Borgo Panigale & Reno
The Borgo Panigale-Reno district is located in the suburbs extending west of Bologna. It was born in 2016 from the merger of the Borgo Panigale district, located between the Lavino and Reno rivers, and the former Reno district, which extended on the right bank of the river of the same name.
Today, the district borders Navile and Porto-Saragozza and Casalecchio di Reno. It is also characterised by the presence of the Reno River that divides this area from the rest of the city.
In particular, the area of Borgo Panigale is vast and flat. It used to be an exclusively agricultural area and then, over time, was affected by a large industrial settlement. In the past, the Reno area was home to several wealthy families, but over time this area also saw the arrival of the first industrialised nuclei and the establishment of factories.
Today, the district is home to many craft businesses and large industries. The ever-expanding urbanised centre is also surrounded by green areas, some of which are still agricultural, while others constitute public neighbourhood parks.
The area is well connected by main roads, but also by railway networks, public transport surface transportation and the presence of Bologna Airport, named after Guglielmo Marconi, from which national and international flights depart and arrive.

What to see and do
In Borgo Panigale-Reno there are several attractions to visit and see, including: monuments, palaces, medieval castles, churches, museums, gardens, as well as enjoying streets and squares.
Among the places of interest are: the MAST - Manifattura di Arti, Sperimentazione e Tecnologia, a multifunctional centre and exhibition space, the MAST Foundation, where exhibitions, conferences in the auditorium and other events are organised.
The Ducati Museum, for motorbike lovers, has made Borgo Panigale famous for being home to the famous motorbike manufacturer. The collection of motorbikes that trace the history of the famous brand is housed here. The area is also home to the headquarters of the Fabbri and Marchesini companies, as well as Teatri di Vita, an international theatre centre and theatre company.
There are also a range of religious architectures in the district that are worth seeing for a deeper understanding of the area and to enjoy the beauty of the buildings. For example, the Churches of Santa Maria Assunta, in the centre of the district, Santa Maria del Carmine di Rigosa, in the village of the same name, Santo Spirito di Lavino di Mezzo, near the Lavino stream, San Giovanni Battista di Medola.
From Borgo Panigale-Reno you can reach the famous Hermitage of Tizzano, located in Casalecchio di Reno. This is the sanctuary of the Santissimo Crocifisso, a church dating back to the mid-17th century and later consecrated to St Benedict of Norcia.
In via Riva Reno, in the centre of Bologna, you will find Filatelia Riva Reno, a fascinating shop that has been a point of reference, for over fifty years, for those with a hobby of stamps and antique coins.
In the Borgo Panigale-Reno district, there are also a few green areas and public parks, perfect for outdoor leisure time between relaxation and sport. The Lungoreno Park, a riverside park that follows the course of the river; the Ghisello Garden, a place where silk spinning machines used to be installed; and the Parco Città Campagna (City Countryside Park), more recent as it was established in 2010, where you can enjoy beautiful walks and find rest stops.
Where to eat and drink
Bologna is also a city renowned for its cuisine, a bit like the other places in the Emilia-Romagna region. Even in the Borgo Panigale-Reno district, there are several places and restaurants where you can enjoy traditional tastes, as well as other international and more modern proposals.
Some of the most popular are the restaurants in Casalecchio di Reno, which we have seen is located south-west of the city centre, but locals travel there on purpose. We recommend: Tramvia, it has a history of about 150 years that has seen this restaurant change its name several times, everything is designed for the customer's well-being, and they also have a very rich selection of local, national and international wines.
Then there are also: Ristorante Bersagliere Casalecchio, from traditional Bolognese dishes, also with a tasting menu, to pizza, in an informal location with wooden furnishings. Speaking about pizza, one of the most renowned pizzerias in Casalecchio is Donna Sofì, which offers a wide choice of ingredients and raw materials, as well as Neapolitan fried appetisers.
Earlier we were also talking about international cuisine, so here are some sushi restaurants in Casalecchio: Kiku, Comodo Sushi, Ginza, Izumi, Miyama, Ponzu. Including Japanese specialities but also Chinese, the Puyuma Restaurant offers an all-you-can-eat formula in a very well-kept premises amidst wood and bamboo decorations.
But if you are closer to the Borgo Panigale area, there are other excellent restaurants that you can try: Trattoria della Salute, with traditional cuisine; Il Pavaglione, a well-kept place with exposed beams and a summer terrace where you can find Bolognese specialities; also at Osteria Tato & Vino you will enjoy homemade dishes in an informal setting.
In Via Riva di Reno, moving towards the centre, try Ristorante Michelemma', here the speciality is seafood dishes such as seafood pasta and other first and second courses in a family-run trattoria.
Now here are a few suggestions of places to have an aperitif or after-dinner drink: Goa Lounge, a cocktail bar; Vintage Cafè, also a bistro; Harvest Pub, a wide selection of craft beers, as well as Birroteca La Tana del Luppolo; Il Mistico Cocktail & Wine, a lounge bar specialising in finely mixed classic and original cocktails.
Where to go shopping
Facilities in and around the neighbourhood include a whole range of shops, supermarkets and shopping centres for shopping and various purchases.
In the Borgo Panigale area is Centroborgo, a historic shopping centre with chain shops and a large supermarket. In addition, there is Unieuro, for shopping electronics and household appliances; Brico for everything to do with DIY, gardening, and household items; Fashion Market, M&L Store, Upim, and Stock&Stock for clothing. For aficionados there is the Ducati Factory Store, a retailer of the famous brand with a wide selection of motorbikes but also suits, helmets and various merchandising.
In Via Riva di Reno, more centrally located, there are shops selling clothing, shoes, gifts and, nearby, the most renowned mid-range brands, such as Zara. In addition to all services such as banks and ATMs, pharmacies, bookshops, pet shops, beauty and wellness shops and so on.
Casalecchio di Reno is home to the famous Shopville Gran Reno shopping centre, which includes a whole series of shops: Primark, Prenatal, Foot Locker, AW Lab, Bata, Bottega Verde, Calzedonia, Cisalfa Sport, Clayton, Fiorella Rubino, Fielmann and so on. The supermarket you find here is the Carrefour.
The other shopping centre in Casalecchio is the Centro Meridiana, also here clothing shops, electronics, such as Unieuro, bookshops, informal restaurants and the supermarket.
